Competences
According to Article 240 of the University's Statutes, the University Ombudsman of the University of Alcalá is the single-member body elected by the University Senate, responsible for ensuring respect for the rights and freedoms of all members of the university community, with regard to the actions of its bodies and services, in order to avoid situations of discrimination, defencelessness or arbitrariness.
The primary objective of the work of the University Ombudsman is to improve the quality of the provision of the public service of education and research that the University offers to society.
The University Ombudsman has the powers laid down in Article 243 of the Statutes of the University of Alcalá.
The work of the University Ombudsman is not subject to mandatory instructions from any university authority and is governed by the principles of independence and autonomy, and is aimed at achieving improved quality in the institution, by compliance with university legislation and with the Statutes of the University of Alcalá in particular.
The decisions and reports of the Ombudsman shall not be binding and compliance with them is not compulsory. Because the Ombudsman's decisions are recommendations, they cannot be appealed against.
The tasks carried out by the University Ombudsman in the performance of his/her duties are confidential, and are subject to confidentiality by all those working in the office of the Ombudsman, and all individuals or bodies that are involved in those tasks.
The information received in the course of the work done by the University Ombudsman shall be subject to the obligation of confidentiality, without prejudice to the laws on reporting criminal acts or legislation on disciplinary system for public employees.
